Reddit users have chosen Byju Raveendran the worst Indian founder because of his creation of a poisonous work environment, his use of dishonest business tactics to "scam" clients, and his negative impact on the Indian startup scene.
Currently, the Co-Founder and Chief executive officer of the educational technology company Byju's is going through a multiple legal and financial burdens and struggles. Raveendran has been blamed of illegally transacting $533 million to offshore accounts which are correlated to him, a blame he strongly fights. In addition to this, Raveendran’s business has evaded on huge debt obligations in both India and US, pushing it in the tough process of becoming insolvent problems and capital shortage.
These problems have resulted in numerous layoffs, unpaid salaries, and a significant decline in the company's price.
Public perception of Indian startup founders has been surveyed by the "Startup India" Reddit group. The most underappreciated, most overrated, finest, and worst Indian founders have all been determined thus far by the continuing voting process.
Sridhar Vembu of Zoho won the title of Best Founder, as determined by Reddit users. Vembu was selected the best Indian founder for a number of reasons, including his ability to establish a successful product, provide employment in his community, and develop an outstanding business plan.
One of the voters says, “He created a company in his village providing so many jobs to people in his hometown. Although Zoho pays less compared to the industry standards, still their products are great.
“Undoubtedly Vembu. He operates from a village in Tamil Nadu. He scaled it to global level and is now giving tough competition to Google and Microsoft. He made his startup unicorn without even taking VC funding’.
